Attentive Listening
We listen with our EYES, our EARS and our HEARTS.
- Acknowledging the person who is speaking with full attention and eye contact
- Withholding one’s own comments, opinions, and need to talk when someone else is speaking
- Let speaker know they are being heard
Appreciation/ No Put Downs
We will speak kindly to others and think of other people's feelings. Avoid "you" statements which place blame. Encourage your child make "I" statements of appreciation by using such sentence starters as these:
“I liked it when...(describe the situation).”
“I felt good when you...”
“I admire you for...(describe the quality)."
" I appreciate you because...(describe why)."
Your own modeling encourages the sharing of positive statements perhaps more than anything. It is important that you model being both a good giver and a good receiver.

Mutual Respect
We will treat people the way we want to be treated. Within a school community this agreement means respect for
- Individuals cultural values, beliefs, differences
- Teachers, parents, other caring adults and peers
- Personal property and individual privacy
Right to Participate/Pass
The right to pass means that each person has the right to choose the extent to which he or she will share in a group activity. We have the right to pass in certain activities, the right to have more "think" time and to know that the more we participate the more we gain. Being a silent observer is still a form of participation and can also lead to greater learning.

Personal Best
To achieve your personal best means making the best possible choices and decisions each day of your life. In order for children to grow, improve and find success both academically and in social relationships children need to set goals and always perform their personal best.
