November 2014
Dear Parents and/or Guardians,
October has flown by very quickly and it is hard to believe that November has arrived already. A great big “THANK YOU” goes out to all those parents who helped provide treats for our Halloween Party. Your help has been greatly appreciated! Also "THANK YOU" to Mike the electrician for coming into our classroom to discuss how electricity works, the tools that are used when working with electricity and safety precautions when handling electricity.

Connections
We learn and are affected by the knowledge we gather, our previous experiences, our understanding of situations and our emotions. Good readers draw upon prior knowledge and experiences to help them understand what they are reading and thus are able to use that knowledge to make connections. By teaching students how to connect to text they are able to better understand what they are reading. Accessing prior knowledge and experiences is a good starting place when teaching strategies because every child has experiences, knowledge, opinions and emotions they can draw upon. Students’ comprehension improves when they make various kinds of connections when they are learning. When reading or exploring at home encourage your child to make connections to different texts or experiences they have had.
Headphones Our class has many opportunities to use technology in the school. We are asking that students bring in a set of headphones to school for their own personal use to be used in the computer lab, with the classroom computer and iPads. The headphones will be kept safely in our classroom. Please send the headphones in a labelled baggie. (We suggest NO EAR BUDS – they are usually uncomfortable for little ears).
